In July and August 2004 Bettina Holzhausen was invited to choreograph for the Companhia Nacional de Canto e Dança in Maputo for the second time. This new piece was based on a very new traditional dance from Northern Mozambique (Province Cabo Delgado). During a research trip in December 2003 she assisted the performance of a Mashawona-group in a village of the Makonde and was asked by the Companhia Nacional de Canto e Dança to adapt the dance in a contemporary spirit for the company. One of the main tasks was to develop ways of creating and choreographing on the basis of traditional dances.
The piece was successfully premiered during Festival d’Agosto at Teatre Avenida in Maputo on 25 and 26 August 2004 and belongs now to the repertory of Companhia Nacional de Canto e Dança.
